Back in the examination room, Grace tried to calm the children by talking about everyday things, but their minds kept drifting back to Nyx. “
Did you finish your homework, Emma?” she asked, trying to sound casual. Emma nodded but didn’t lift her gaze from Nyx.
Alex fiddled with his phone, clearly distracted. “We should take Nyx for a walk after this,” Grace suggested.
Yet, no one could change the subject. The room’s tension refused to lift.
